  • For Florida, we travel with a minimum of two Sprout leaders, with the possibility of additional leaders and/or interns.

  • There are no vaccinations required for this program. However, we do request that all travelers be up to date on their tetanus vaccinations.

  • All passengers under the age of 18 and traveling with an adult other than a parent/legal guardian, must provide:

    1. A written notarized consent form from the biological parents or legal guardians. The consent form will be provided to you from SPROUT.

    2. A copy of the passenger's birth certificate.

    3. A copy of their biological parent’s or legal guardian’s ID attached to the consent letter. You will need a copy of BOTH parents if there are two parents who share legal custody of the minor. In the event of the death of a parent, a copy of the death certificate is required as well.

  • A general packing list will be posted on the website. A program-specific list will be provided at a pre-travel meeting.

  • Pre-travel meetings are scheduled times for the group to prepare together for their upcoming.

  • Yes. Pre-travel meetings are essential to a successful program.

  • The Sprout Experience partners with Arch Roam Right for our travel insurance and we require all participants (Sprout leaders and participants) to purchase insurance. It is critical when traveling with youth that we are all on the same policy with the same procedures and coverages.

  • Students will need to purchase their own meals, snacks and drinks in the airports, as well as any souvenirs or personal items.

  • For a domestic departure, we will meet at the airport approximately 2-3 hours prior to our departure time. This allows for ample time to get everyone checked in at the gate, answer last minute questions, etc.

  • You will be able to track our flights from home and The Sprout Experience will also be in contact with each landing and departure.

  • Sprout asks that students and families use WhatsApp, which is a free app that you download to your phone. This allows Sprout to create a FAMILY CONTACT LIST which allows us to send messages to every family at one time. We also ask that families do not schedule specific check in times with your child during the program. This can lead to unnecessary worry. Cell batteries may die, service may not be possible at that moment because we are hiking, snorkeling, etc. Remember the key is to unplug and be immersed in the experience!

  • The Sprout Experience has private on ground transportation for this program.

  • Rest assured that a Sprout leader will be able to contact a family in the event of an emergency. If a family member needs to contact Sprout, they will use the cell number provided to them. Families will also be provided with an emergency contact number for a Sprout leader that is in the CLE area.

  • Specific dietary needs were requested to be listed when the program application was completed. Sprout will accommodate dietary needs.

  • Prescribed and over the counter medication needs were requested to be listed on the program application. Sprout will check in with the student guardians prior to departure to update medication needs. While on program, a Sprout leader will give medication reminders with students. If you have any concerns about medication needs for your child, please speak with a Sprout leader.

WAIT!
Slogging through a swamp?
I got MORE questions!

  • No. The program is not dangerous. Our guides are trained naturalists and biologists that have been kayaking, swimming, and slogging the Everglades for over twenty years, and there has never been an serious incident.

  • The Everglades is known for its mosquitos, but they are mostly in the salt marshes. When kayaking you will likely not have a problem with bugs. When walking through the cypress domes you may hear the occasional mosquito buzzing your ear but our guides bring plenty of repellant. If the skeeters are too bad during the slog, we even have special hoods and suits you can wear!

  • In the summer large thunderheads and rolling clouds are what make the Everglades sky so dramatic. Often times, these storms are what make the most incredible sunsets out on Florida Bay. Our guides are ready to customize the trip to cater to our needs and make sure no guest feels unsafe.

  • Our guides are trained wildlife biologists. They know exactly where to look for alligators, manatees, snakes, owls, dolphin, spoonbills, or flamingo be in the area. However, nothing is guaranteed. The best thing is to come with your glass empty and let us fill it up with whatever the Everglades has on the menu for the day.

  • We recommend lightweight clothes, preferably not cotton because it takes so long to dry. Long sleeve shirts and pants are best for sun protection as well as a wide brimmed hat and sunglasses. For walking/slogging we recomend any sort of cheap water shoe will do as well as shoes with ankle straps like Chacos, Five Fingers, or just an old pair of tennis shoes.
